Wood flooring FAQs

We appreciate that buying wood flooring is a big commitment and a decision that you will want to get right.  To help you, we have put together some of the most common FAQs:

 

What is the difference between solid and engineered wood flooring?

The difference between solid and engineered wood flooring is the way in which it is made.  Solid wood flooring is made from a solid piece of wood, whereas engineered wood flooring has a solid top layer with base layers of plywood for added stability. Can I use an underfloor heating system with my new wooden floor?

Yes, you can use underfloor heating if you are using engineered wooden flooring.  It has been designed to allow the transfer of heat, while withstanding the constant changes in temperature.  You cannot use underfloor heating with a solid wood floor.

 

Can I install wood flooring in my kitchen?

Yes, you can install wood flooring in your kitchen.  We would recommend that you use engineered rather than solid wood. It is really important that you don’t fit your floor underneath the kitchen cabinets, as this can restrict the natural movement of the wood.

 

Can I install wood flooring in my conservatory?

You can use an engineered wooden floor in your conservatory as it can withstand the fluctuations in temperature.  You cannot use a solid wood floor in a conservatory.

 

Can I install wood flooring in my bathroom?

We would not advise that you do this.  The moisture and excess water can cause irreparable damage to the planks of flooring. A fantastic alternative is either a Luxury Vinyl Floor or Waterproof Laminate.

 

How do I measure my room for a new floor?

Quite simply, measure the width of the area, measure the length of the area and multiply the two measurements together.  Always measure in meters as this is how you will buy the floor.  Also, we recommend that you add on 5% for wastage.  If your room is an awkward shape, or you need any help with this, just contact us.

 

Is it hard to look after a wooden floor?

No, it is actually easy to look after a wooden floor. Simply sweep them daily and clean them on a weekly basis.  Have a look at the following for more cleaning tips and advice:
